About Us
History
Peter Graham of Lakeville came to Winsted one spring day scouting land for, of all things, a golf course. That was his dream, and he found his track for a six-hole course on a pasture off of Torringford Street. A lot has happened in the last 100-plus years;
Two world wars, the Great Depression, Rock ‘n Roll, Arnie’s Army, television, the Internet, and Tiger. To this day, here in the green woods, lies this little 10-hole track, that remains a great test of your short game as any course can. It’s been a home for generations of families, and it’s been a welcoming course for beginners to learn and later advance in the game of golf.

Established in 1902 as a six-hole Golf Course, Green Woods Country Club is one of only three in the United States with a 10-hole layout. A par 71 course, Green Woods features rolling terrain that weaves through clusters of pine and oak trees. The course is designed to challenge golfers of every skill level. Our original Clubhouse has been incorporated into the new building, which includes the Pro Shop, Locker facilities, Bar, and Restaurant. Something is always happening at Green Woods Country Club, we hope to see you here soon. You will not regret it.
